Kenneth
Zaremba
Senior Litigation Counsel - Employment Law
Kenneth Zaremba is a veteran litigator with decades of experience handling complex, high-exposure cases. After building his career defending insurers in catastrophic personal injury and other major matters, he now represents individuals—bringing insider perspective, strategic judgment, and a proven trial record to cases involving personal injury, employment disputes, civil rights, and contract litigation.
Kenneth Zaremba’s career reflects a deliberate shift toward representing individuals in their most consequential moments. He understands the imbalance people often face when going up against well-resourced opponents, and is driven by the opportunity to level that playing field.
Mr. Zaremba was born and raised in New Jersey. Ken graduated from Rutgers College in 1987 and Seton Hall University School of Law in 1990. He is licensed to practice law in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Upon his graduation from law school, Mr. Zaremba joined the well-respected insurance defense firm of Ronca, McDonald, and Hanley. Ken spent his career defending significant and catastrophic personal injury, employment, complex toxic tort, medical negligence, environmental contamination, and construction actions on behalf of insurance companies and their insureds. In 2005, Mr. Zaremba became an equity partner and, in 2007, was named managing partner of Ronca, Hanley, Nolan & Zaremba, LLC, a position he served in until 2012. Some of Mr. Zaremba’s insurance clients included State Farm, Lloyds of London, Zurich, AIG, NJPLIGA, Selective, Allstate, Travelers, Lumberman’s, Progressive, and Liberty Mutual.
During this time, Mr. Zaremba met Kevin Barber and developed a respected professional and personal relationship. After spending a career representing insurance companies, Ken and Kevin believed that those experiences and that knowledge would be invaluable as a plaintiffs’ lawyer. One thing led to another, and they joined forces. Since 2013, Mr. Zaremba has not looked back and truly realized, as well as embraced, the importance of representing people against powerful interests.
Mr. Zaremba works extensively with Mr. Barber on matters involving employment discrimination, civil rights, social justice, complex personal injury, contract actions, and actions involving members of our nation’s Armed Forces. Their success has resulted in numerous settlements and jury awards in excess of tens of millions of dollars. Together, Mr. Zaremba and Mr. Barber have successfully tried multiple jury trials to conclusion.
Mr. Zaremba successfully tried numerous cases to verdict, settled thousands of cases on behalf of insurers, and handled multiple appeals that resulted in important opinions filed in multiple jurisdictions, such as State Farm v. Aquino, 349 N.J. Super. 402 (App. Div. 2002). The more recent results are:
McCracken v. City of Bloomfield -- A six-month trial in which four Bloomfield Police Officers asserted claims of harassment and retaliation based on their military service. The jury returned a verdict in excess of seven figures for Plaintiffs, including punitive damages.
Ienciu v. LTS Lohmann -- An action in which Plaintiff asserted a hostile work environment and wrongful termination based upon her Romanian national origin. The jury returned a verdict on all counts and awarded the Plaintiff a seven-figure verdict. The final judgment was $2.8M.
Hunter v Borough of Bergenfield -- An action for hostile work environment and disparate treatment based on an employee’s status as a member of the U.S. National Guard. In a case of first impression, the court adopted a broad interpretation of New Jersey’s military leave statute. At trial, the jury awarded Plaintiff significant compensatory and punitive damages. The total final judgment was $1.7M.
Polites v. QED -- Department of Defense contractor oppressed shareholder action. Binding arbitration before retired New Jersey Supreme Court Chief Justice Zazzali resulted in a $5.7M award to the client.
